What to Wear?

Because this session is only six weeks, you may wear tight athletic clothing or dance attire with hair pulled up.
Ballet - leotard (any color), pink tights, ballet full-sole shoes, skirt or tutu if you chose
Boys - black tight-fitting pants, white shirt, black ballet shoes
Creative Movement- same as ballet
Tap - tap shoes and shorts or pants that are ankle length
Hip Hop - tight athletic clothing, indoor use only sneakers
My favorite site to find affordable dance clothing is Discount Dance Supply. They have everything and anything you may need in one spot.

Dance clothes tend to run small, so when in doubt order up!

If you would like to shop in person, Diva Dancewear in Traverse City is recommended! They are located on Garfield Ave. with Dance Arts Academy.

Tap Ages 6-8 / 6:30–7:00 pm  Fee $40
A form of dance characterized by using ones shoes, as well as the floor, as a percussive instrument. As such, it is also commonly considered to be a musical form as well. Two major variations on tap dance exist, rhythm (Jazz) tap and Broadway tap. Broadway tap focuses more on the dance side, and is widely performed as a part of musical theater. Rhythm tap focuses instead on the musical side, and practitioners consider themselves to be a part of the Jazz tradition. Dancers must work together to create the sound keeping their steps at the correct speed to match each other.

Hip Hop  Ages 6-10 / 7:00–7:45 pm  Fee:  $50
Free style dance form based on jazz movements and also incorporates hip-hop rhythms. This form of dance came about from and is influenced by today’s music and culture.
